The stories were full of criminals, and I think The Valley of Fear is one of the classics. The description of the greedy mentality, the conduct of bullying the kind and fidgeting to the ruffian, and the dynamics in a gang of hierarchy was ever so vivid that several times, I couldn’t but lift the corner of my mouth. The world is not much changed over the hundreds of years and may not even be changed in the future.
